Hello! I’m Ellen and thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet.

I like to make things. I like to play with paper. I like to cook and, on occasion, bake. I like to capture moments in time. I like to travel. I like to read books and watch movies. I like to choose joy on a regular basis.

I’m a Wisconsin girl born and raised. I now call Northern Minnesota home. Duluth to be exact. I’ve been here about 5 years and love it. It has everything you could want: decent size, on the shores of a Great Lake, nature in and around the city, good local food, craft beer, and great friends. I adore the North Shore of Lake Superior whether it’s exploring it on my own or sharing it with others.

I’m a Career Counselor by day. I love helping students to find what exactly it is they are looking for. Or, at least get them going down the path to find it. In 2005, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communication with a minor in Management from UW-Eau Claire. In 2011, I earned my Master of Science degree in Counselor Education, emphasis Higher Education, from UW-Whitewater. A month after grad school ended, I moved to Duluth and started my professional career.

My family includes 3 of my most favorite people in the whole world. My mom, dad, and younger sister Julie. I also am blessed to have several people in my life who are dear friends. But my family, they are my rock.

Photography is one of my favorite, growing hobbies. I’m also a big fan of reading for fun, knitting, hiking, and scrapbooking. I’m an avid fan of Project Life.

During the summer of 2010, I ventured to Oregon for a summer internship at Eastern Oregon University and was bitten by the travel bug. I’ve since fallen in love with National Parks. I have visited 10 Parks and 8 other NPS sites. Of all the sites I’ve visited, 5 of them have been multiple times. I have also visited countless state parks, national forests, and state forests. The North Shore of Lake Superior is home to many of my favorite state parks. Check out my travels page for more adventures.

Growing up, I played the clarinet in band. I also learned to play the flute and joined the color guard. Marching band was my favorite part of the whole band experience.

I’m a slight geography nerd. One of my favorite posters is a map of the world. I have a map of the U.S. up in my apartment to document the places of where I have traveled to in this vastly diverse country I am blessed to live in.

I have a deep love for Jane Austen novels, White Christmas, documenting the world around me, Julie & Julia, books, being creative, TV on DVD, Netflix/Hulu, bookstores, my morning coffee, movie nights with themes, winter color guard, drum corps, and many other things.

Fave TV Shows: The West Wing (fave show of all time), Gilmore Girls (second fave show of all time), The Newsroom, Madam Secretary, Dancing with the Stars, The Mindy Project, Big Bang Theory, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, Army Wives, Heartland, Friends, Will & Grace, How I Met Your Mother, Ace of Cakes, The O.C., and many others.
